Honestly that was not our experience at all. The restaurant is right around the corner from our office in Frankfurt, so we're frequent guests and will continue to give Depot 1899 our business. Something for everyone on the menu -- multiple schnitzel choices; goulash looked great; and my salad was huge, fresh and tasty.
Though that point is moot because I didn't think food of that quality was worth paying for in the first place. Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more. We had high expectations of Depot 1899, but were let down by the food. I had the beef goulash and the beef was dry. Not sure how you can do that, and after much discussion we think the chef took a cigar break at the wrong time and somehow over cooked the beef before it was put in the goulash. I've seen some poor reviews lately.
Very Good; Deserving of a "4" - Depot 1899
It's a nice, large building in a part of town known to be crawling with hungry and thirsty patrons at night, and it's got excellent public transport connections. Those are the points why we chose it. The food was awful, the service was worse. And while the prices aren't totally over the top, they are quite steep considering that the helpings were rather small.
They also have a nice breakfast buffet on weekends which is also quite popular. On the positive side the service was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a pity really because the venue has potential.
Oh dear!! What a tragedy!! - Depot 1899
This is quite a big place and somewhat popular right next to Sudbahnhof. German food and local Frankfurt dishes are the specialty. I came here for a few days in a row for lunch as part of a group. The food was always well prepared and service friendly. Would recommend coming here for some authentic German food in a nice environment.
